… here are some tips and tricks to help you plan your day
Whether you’re planning a last-minute winter wedding. or you’ve got months ahead to pull your ideas together, we hope these hints help you to bring your dream day to life.
Embrace the daylight
Winter is better known for twinkling fairy lights on dark afternoons. But here’s what photographers love about winter weddings - the daylight can be truly incredible. It’s low, it’s warm, there’s lovely lens flares that you don’t get in summer.
To make the most of this make sure to plan an early ceremony. If you get married at 1pm, you’ll be heading out for photos into the best of the afternoon light, just before the sun sets.
Ask for our supplier list
Winter dates are POPULAR! So if you find that your first choice hairdresser is booked, drop us a line - we can’t do your hair but we will give you our big list of folk who can, and who do it brilliantly.
We are lucky enough to work with some of the best in the business, be it celebrants, bands, caterers… we’ll pass this knowledge on to save you trawling and clicking through pages of Google hits. Choosing well-established suppliers with a good network will take a bit of stress out of planning a wedding at a busy time of year.
Chat with your suppliers
Maybe you love the winter aesthetic and can’t see yourself getting married at any other time. We all love a bit of cosiness! Or maybe you got engaged over the summer and don’t want to wait another year to get married.
Whatever the reason, the best tip we can give to kickstart your plans is to chat with your suppliers.
Use their expertise
All your suppliers will have a tonne of winter wedding experience and will know how to get the best out of the season.
Your venue will have lighting designed for the early nights - think tea lights, fairy lights, festoon lights.
Your outfitters can recommend cosy wraps, shawls and plaids which look great with your dresses, kilts or suits.
Your florist can tell you which flowers work beautifully with a winter vibe.
Hit the road (or the internet)
If you can, it’s definitely worth making a trip to your venue in winter to see how they dress & light the space. This is also helpful to see how accessible the location is in the event of bad weather. You can tell your guests to give the journey an extra half-an-hour if you think they’ll need it.
But obviously it might not be possible to get to your venue before winter kicks in. If that’s the case google your venue name + winter wedding photography. Chances are you’ll find a blog or a gallery showing how the space will look. Different lighting styles can transform a venue between seasons.

Plan a few thoughtful touches
Provide cozy blankets for outdoor ceremonies or cocktails. Consider a hot chocolate bar, mulled wine, or seasonal cocktails to keep everyone warm and in the festive spirit.
Additionally, include a note on the invitation suggesting appropriate winter attire, plus any local info on the best way to reach an out-of-the-way venue.
But most importantly…
… have the best day!
